ISPM-15 Wood Regulations for International Shipping

International Shipping requirements result in frequent questions from Navis Pack & Ship customers.  Below is more information with regard to ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures #15) for Wood Packing Materials (WPM) wood regulations.
To prevent the spread of plant pests and diseases throughout the world, regulations have been implemented in the ocean freight industry. These regulations are known worldwide as ISPM-15 rules  and have been originated from the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). ISPM-15 rules apply on international shipments containing wood packaging material such as pallets, crates, dunnage, drums, wood cases, etc. International transportation companies must comply with these ISPM-15 rules when accepting cargo for overseas shipments.
ISPM-15 rules require that all international shipments using any species of raw wood packaging must be fumigated or heat treated to kill insects or fungus and stamped with the approved stamp(s), before goods are allowed entry or crossing through a participating country.
The stamps show Customs that all solid wood packaging material has been treated to meet the ISPM-15 requirements. Non-compliance can result in Customs turning back, repackaging or destroying items that do not meet the ISPM 15 standards.
ISPM-15 rules apply globally, including all exports and imports from and to the United States and Canada. It applies to shipments tendered to any international transportation company or international moving company.
If you use an international transportation company for your international shipment from the United States, always ensure that your goods are properly packed with respect to compliance with the ISPM-15 rules.
Navis Pack & Ship of Jacksonville strictly adheres to the ISPM-15 rules for all international shipments.  Explore our website at http://www.jaxnavis.com/ for more information on our international shipping program.  Please visit our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/JaxNavis to view examples of our work.

How To Ship Painting Pieces Safely

To ship painting pieces, it’s essential to plan properly and to choose a company with solid shipping experience. Paintings are easily affected by the heat and vibration of standard shipping practices and must be treated differently.
In order to ship painting pieces safely, it’s important to choose the right shipping materials and use professional techniques to avoid potential damage to the pieces. Modern shipping companies will ship a painting differently depending on its individual features—paintings in frames, for instance, often require different padding than paintings shipped separately from their frames. Reputable companies often use specially fitted foam products to ship painting pieces, as foam doesn’t allow heat to build up yet provides sufficient physical protection. There are other materials specially designed to ship painting pieces safely, but standard packaging like bubble wrap and packing peanuts will not protect expensive art pieces and can be dangerous to use.
Always use a shipping company that has experience with paintings and fine art. Experienced companies are more likely to provide insurance and less likely to use materials that could potentially result in costly damage to a valuable art piece during shipping.

According to the Peter O’Neill Gallery website, www.oneillgallery.com, the original oil was sold at auction for $20,000 on October 10th, 2001.  100% of the proceeds from the sale of the original were donated to the New York City Fireman and Emergency Service Relief Fund.  To date they have also donated 14,000 lithographs of the “Two Minutes of Silence” to Fire Departments, Police Departments and Emergency Service Stations.  It is their intention to donate, with the support of the public, to every station in the country.
